BUILDING THE NEXT GENERATION OF ENTREPRENEURS
On the Verge Magazine, Temple University's Fox School of Business
As Apple co-founder Steve Jobs once said, “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”
Access Engineering
Penn Engineering Magazine, University of Pennsylvania
In order for the U.S. to remain globally competitive in technology and innovation, widening the pipeline of incoming engineers is critical. Despite booming numbers of education initiatives in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), many students across the country continue to graduate from high school without a real grasp of the field of engineering or its career opportunities. This gap is particularly wide in rural and urban areas where STEM’s more costly educational resources can be harder to provide.
Exploring the Archives, Uncovering Antiquities
Manhattan Magazine, Manhattan College
Just about any Jasper can tell you that the campus is filled with cherished objects, from the stately keystone-topped arches abutting Memorial Hall to the hallowed sanctuary of the Chapel of De La Salle and His Brothers. But what isn’t as widely known, or often visible to the campus community, is Manhattan’s treasure trove of precious pieces and historical riches buried deep within O’Malley Library. After walking down a few flights of stairs, winding past the stacks of old books, and opening an unassuming door, you’ll find the buried treasure scattered among the documents, photos and collectibles in the College’s Archives.
Focus on White Plains
Westchester Magazine
As the city that houses the second busiest train station in the Metro-North system after Grand Central Terminal, White Plains is a booming metropolis with new businesses, retailers, and restaurants popping up all over. With nearly 57,000 residents and 250,000 visitors each day, “People get here by a number of means, because we are the junction point of most of the roads in the area,” says Mayor Thomas M. Roach. In fact, later this year, the city is doing something new to improve the life of local commuters by opening dedicated bike lanes, which will lead to and from the train station.
Running for their Lives
School of Sport, Tourism & Hospitality, Temple University
Running, like all exercise, is powerful medicine. In fact, the American Heart Association reports that active people experience more emotional, cognitive and physical benefits than sedentary people. But does running make sense for the homeless, a population understandably much more concerned with finding food and shelter than a fitness routine? Temple University researchers are hoping to find out.
It's Not Easy Being Green
Manhattan Magazine, Manhattan College
With the continuous focus on sustainability in New York City’s five boroughs, Manhattan College maintains a commitment to making its campus more sustainable and to decreasing the College’s carbon footprint. As a way to further promote the importance of urban sustainability and environmental justice within the academic community and beyond, Manhattan recently opened a new Center for Urban Resilience and Environmental Sustainability (CURES).
